Oh hi, heavenly helping of delicious meat and cheese, thank you for being here. And thank you for being in a pepper. I like you better that way. (What? Don’t you talk to your food like this?) The other weekend at a BBQ, someone looked at my plate of food and said “Oh, you’re one of those low-carb people huh?” (He obviously isn’t aware of my Cheez-It collection.) But I will say this, and you can’t judge me for it. Sometimes….bread bores me. There. There I said it. I’m really just interested in eating whatever is supposed to go with the bread. (Like meat. And Cheese. I’m a sophisticated being.) Speaking of which, let me segway into a couple of debates that are swirling around in the Philly Cheesesteak wo
What kind of meat is used for Philly Cheesesteak:
Thinly sliced Ribeye, Skirt Steaks, and Sirloin are all acceptable cuts of meat for Philly Cheesesteaks. Ribeye is what they are traditionally made with, although it’s also a more expensive cut. Most grocery stores have packaged shaved steak so you don’t have to prepare it from scratch.
What kind of cheese is on a Philly Cheesesteak:
The type of cheese used on a Philly Cheesesteak is one of those long running food debates, it’s a toss between Provolone, American, and Cheez Whiz. This is based on personal preference as any of those cheese are delicious in a Philly Cheesesteak.
Personally, I was eating Cheez Whiz out of the jar with a spoon yesterday, soo… I tend to lean that way.
Do you put mushrooms in a Philly Cheesesteak?
You can totally add mushrooms to a Philly Cheesesteak if you want. This is another fun food debate. I actually posed this question as a poll on Instagram and on Facebook last night. The results? 63% said YES to mushrooms in a Philly Cheesesteak. Where do you stand? Comment & weigh-in, it’s a very important debate you know. 😊
