This recipe is inspired by the Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso available at Starbucks. It’s lightly sweet, with a prominent coffee flavor, and I love that it’s nut-free and dairy-free.
Ingredients You’ll Need
What’s in an oat milk latte?
Coffee Water Rolled oats Maple syrup (or sweetener of choice)
The oats and water create the oat milk for this latte. When you blend these ingredients together, they become creamy in just seconds. No store-bought oat milk required! If you’ve tried my Vegan latte, which is made with almond butter instead of oats, you know how creamy a blended drink like this can be! When you keep oatmeal on hand, this drink is an easy and affordable option that you can make anytime.
Blend. Turn the blender on and blend until the mixture looks smooth and creamy.
Enjoy! Pour the mixture over ice (and through a strainer, if you want to catch any pieces that might have been missed) and enjoy it right away.
Use cold ingredients. Hot liquids tend to make oats more slimy, so I recommend making this drink iced when possible. If you are really craving a hot drink, I would use only 1 tablespoon of oats with the hot liquids, to reduce the slime factor. Strain out any pulp. Pour the mixture from the blender, through a fine mesh strainer on the way into your cup. This will help catch any small oat pieces that didn’t get totally pulverized and give you a more pleasant sipping experience. Make it fruit-sweetened. You can swap the maple syrup for 2 pitted Medjool dates, if you prefer. In this case, I definitely recommend straining out the pulp, in case the blender misses a piece. Try a Honey Oat Latte. If you don’t need a vegan recipe, you can also swap the maple syrup for honey instead.
Make a Pumpkin Oat Milk Latte. For a pumpkin spice latte, try adding in 1 tablespoon of pumpkin puree and a 1/4 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice. Make your own pumpkin pie spice blend at home, if you need to! Storage tips. Oats tend to get slimier as they sit in liquid, so I don’t recommend making a big batch of this oat milk latte ahead of time. You can brew the coffee in advance, though! Then it will be ready to pour into the blender, and you’ll have a latte in 60 seconds or less. Definitely faster than a coffee shop drive-thru.
