Serve this with my cheesy scalloped potatoes, twice baked potato casserole, or corn casserole!

Glazed Ham

If you’re wondering why you would go through the trouble of making glazed ham from scratch instead of using the packet of glaze that typically comes with the ham, you’ll figure that out quickly when you taste the difference! You’ll never go back to using a packet. It doesn’t even come close to this recipe. The ham is brushed with a mouth-watering honey butter mixture at the beginning, and a deliciously sweet Brown Sugar/Pineapple glaze at the end. Can you think of anything better?

How to Make It

See recipe card below this post for ingredient quantities and full instructions.

Brush honey butter mixture over the ham and inside the crevices of the slices. Add pineapple juice to the roasting pan and place a roasting rack and the ham on top. Cover loosely with foil and seal the edges around the pan.  Bake at 275°F for 15 minutes per pound of ham. Set the ham/rack aside and top the ham with half of the brown sugar mixture. Add the remaining brown sugar mixture to the pan drippings/pineapple juice. Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer, bubble gently until thickened and reduced. Brush desired amount of glaze over the top of the ham and broil for up to 5 minutes to allow the top to caramelize.

How Long to Cook a Fully Cooked Ham

Oven: 13-15 minutes at 275°F per pound of ham. (An 8-lb. ham takes about 2 hours.) Crock Pot: 4-5 hours on low for an 8-9 lb. ham.

How Much Ham Per Person

Plan on 3/4 lb. of ham per person for bone-in, and 1/2 lb. per person for boneless.

How to Make Ham Glaze From Scratch

This glaze is made by combining pineapple juice, pan drippings, brown sugar, white sugar, and spice combination of cinnamon, ground clove, paprika, nutmeg, allspice, and ground ginger. The mixture is whisked together in the roasting pan, brought to a boil, and reduced to a simmer. It bubbles gently and thickens/concentrates until the desired consistency is obtained. Finally, it’s brushed over the ham and broiled until caramelized.

Pro Tips

These instructions are for a ham that has already been cooked/smoked, which is marked as such on the label. SAVE the ham bone! It’s perfect for making pea soup, ham and bean soup, and lentil soup. You can freeze the bone to use another day! Check out my collection of ham recipes to make with leftovers, and side dish recipes to serve with this ham.

Storage

Store in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months. (Leftover sliced ham freezes well and is great for casseroles, soups, and omelettes!)
