Why You’ll Love It

It tastes amazing. The combination of fresh watermelon chunks, frozen strawberries, and a hint of banana gives this drink a summer flavor you’ll love. You can also add a squeeze of lime juice or lemon juice to help brighten it up!  It’s nourishing. Watermelon contains powerful antioxidants like lycopene, vitamin C, and beta-carotene. Paired with fiber-rich strawberries, you’ll get plenty of nutrients in each sip! It’s hydrating. Since watermelon is over 90% water, this smoothie is a great way to rehydrate when it’s warm outside.

Ingredients You’ll Need

This watermelon smoothie recipe requires just 4 simple ingredients, but you can get creative with what you have on hand! I use almond milk for creaminess, but you can use oat milk, hemp milk, or coconut water as the base. Add half of a Medjool date, a squeeze of honey, or a touch of maple syrup for extra sweetness. This will vary based on the sweetness of your watermelon each time you make it.  Looking to add some protein? This smoothie has a delicate flavor, so remember that additions might affect the overall taste. You can add protein powder, greek yogurt, or some rolled oats to help make it more filling.

How to Make a Watermelon Smoothie

  1. Add the ingredients. Add the fresh watermelon, frozen strawberries, banana, and almond milk into a high-speed blender.
  2. Blend.  Secure the lid on your blender, and blend until the ingredients are totally pulverized. Taste the smoothie, and make any adjustments as needed.  Add a splash of maple syrup, honey, or half of a pitted Medjool date for a sweeter flavor. Add a handful of ice cubes and blend again for a slushy texture. You can also add a tart flavor by adding a splash of lime or lemon juice.  As soon as the smoothie tastes good, it’s ready to serve. Storage Tip: This smoothie has the best taste and texture when you enjoy it right after making it. However, if you have leftovers to save, you can freeze them in a popsicle mold for a frozen treat later. If you store it in the fridge, it will have a liquid consistency later, and the flavor won’t taste as fresh.  Looking for more smoothie recipes? Try my Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie, Chocolate Avocado Smoothie, or Tropical Kale Smoothie for more ideas.
